Great people talk about ideas, average people talk about things, small people talk about other people. It's a quote originally attributed to the late and great
Eleanor Roosevelt but don't quote me on that. From the state of things today I would like to bring the quote into the
web 2.0 world by suggesting: "Great people talk about ideas, average people talk about other people, small people talk about the s**t they had for breakfast. I can see a real danger here, a society with inhabitants that in full honest and painfully cronical
narcissism think that it would be of anyones interest what they had for breakfast, texture of bowel movements, haircuts had, dinners cooked (unless exceptionally expensive and/or difficult to concoct in order to evoke envy or awe in one's brothers heart, a behaviour of which I approve). I have had an
epiphany however, and that is what Twitter is for! It feels good to have finally broken the raison d'aitre of Twitter, really good, fingerlickin' good. I suddenly realizing I'm deviating from my original mission statement in only my second posting so let's do a loopback and wrap it: I don't know if it's a sustainable business model defining your core customer as a sickeningly self centered moron.
Today I set forth a call for action of sorts, let's encourage everyone using the social media stage to communicate to the world to at least once every 4th posting a THOUGHT. It doesn't have to be profound, instead of saying "I had cereal for breakfast this morning" it could be "Hmmm, I wonder why I always get the same toy in my cereal boxes so that I am unable to collect the full series of the plinketiplonks I so desire to have". Believe me, it will make the world a better place, not only is it wildly more entertaining as it can be read from a variety of angles, if I have to explain that last one you're lost anyway so I won't. But, and more importantly, it invokes THOUGHT in the readers mind and thus we have a positive pass-it-on circle of articulate THOUGHT.
Thinking leads to ideas, ideas lead (usually) to a better world. Think about that when you feel the urge to share to the world what everyone does, every day, without thinking about it.
It may not be a sustainable business model but it sure is an entertaining one and far cheaper than therapy or anti anxiety medication.
ReplyDeleteHear Hear CK.
ReplyDeleteI didnt read it all, though I hope you understand writing this article puts yourself in the small people cathegory according to the original quote, and the average according to your 'updated' version.
ReplyDeleteI planned on entitling a book something lika a book titled to think, wonder and ponder, -Schopenhauer for beginners.
Your attitude and language gives a ironic nihlistic vibe, so common for 'missunderstood' intellectuals of today. Ur not missunderstood, u know, ur not even understood, coz u haven't said anything.
So, most people are idiots, what else is new? Please talk to me about something that Epicuros would feel inspired about.!.
My point is that thoughts are per se pointless, and a lot of the time only a problem. The brain is the spare tire u dont go on a saffari rally whithout sure, but if you have to use it everyday in This world, ur doing something wrong.
A lot of the time thinking about bad things (like idiots) that u cant really do anything about (do u have a plan for a final solution or WHAT?) wont give u anything.
-It maight sound good it might feel a little something, but FUCK the GAME if it aint sayin nothin!
Still
of course supposing, brainstorming, creative flow, twisting and turning words of thought into thoughts of words to worlds supposed, can be very satisfying. And seen as good, if it comes out with result in the real world (3d).
What i want to make u aware of is that Schopenhauer was one of the greatest THINKERS, still he wasnt really happy, are you?
Dear Mischi, you are welcome to post your comments in your native language, I will find my way. As you know, language is the fundament of all sentient thought. I do not feel your grasp of English make your lines of thought justice. It actually, pardon if you percieve it as insult, only aggravates your position as an SMS commentator, which I without doubt, is not your intention. Shopenhauer, yes, was a great thinker, but if you read my text to the ending, you will see that I actually have a positive note and annotation to it. Happiness has nothing to do with it, the pursuit of happiness, maybe. In general I have not spoken about happiness my dear esteemed colleague and fellow B-logger extraordinaire.
ReplyDeleteOut of ideas? Or come to the conclusion: no raison d'ĂȘtre? Don't quote french if you don't know french spelling, and what the fuck is this: "I do not feel your grasp of English make your lines of thought justice." Get real buddy.
